What makes the McDonald’s or Burger King brands successfully leading in a global world? The large fast-food franchises are recognized worldwide for a fact that is not random. All countries have one or several locations in different places, whether shopping centers or physical establishments in strategic places.

How has a global mentality benefited these corporations?

These franchises have been dedicated to expanding themselves worldwide, in order to stay in the market and generate large profits. This is precisely what has allowed them to open up to new cultures and study each individual market, its customs and mostly its gastronomy.

Most of these fast food locations maintain a food concept mostly oriented towards the American style. However, this has not been an impediment to franchises such as McDonald’s or Burger King, to get positioned in countries like India, where consumption of meat is frowned upon or prohibited, as cows are sacred animals. They, too, as large corporations, have adapted to these cultures, thanks to their cultural openness.

A friend of mine from India mentioned to me not too long ago about the amazing town where he is from, which is located in the south of India, mostly in the State of Tamil Nadu and north of the town of Puducherry. He talked about some of the characteristics of this place that amazed me and for a moment I thought that he was just describing a fantasy story. The level of diversity and relationships that he described, I have to admit, challenged my thinking. So I just took my laptop and Googled it. What is that place around the world that lately grabs your attention?

Founded 50 years ago as an experiment, yet for some, this place is controversial, for others it is utopia or even unreal. Auroville, The City of Dawn, according to one of its founders – Mirra Alfassa, wants to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and continuous harmony, beyond all creeds, politics, and nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to achieve human unity.

After reading about this place and watching some videos about its 2,500 habitats, I am sure that Auroville’s community embraces diversity and unity with great enthusiasm.
