<p>Here each athlete has the opportunity to be in contact with many different cultures and for a few weeks, an intercultural exchange takes place, without losing the notion and sense of the competition.</p>

<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">Humans are biopsychosocial beings; that is why we seek to be in contact and establish relationships and links with others on a daily basis.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">The desire to influence others, to be a leader to different audiences and to expand our potential, is what makes the ability to come into contact with other cultures essential.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">How does the global leader develop his ability to connect with new cultures?</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">The global leader, who knows how to connect with new cultures, is able to start new conversations with people who are different; mostly by asking questions and listening, instead of responding.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">In order to be able to establish this contact with new cultures, it is necessary to find opportunities to exchange information about practices, traditions, products and even to innovate.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">This is an opportunity for both the leader and those with whom he interacts to share their culture.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">Technology has also contributed to this and it allows us to hold multiple conferences with others around the world in real time. Technology has kept us closer and no matter the distance, we can always be in contact.</p>

<p>Getting in touch with others from different cultures is an indispensable quality on a personal and professional level; even more so when it comes to new cultures or organizations. Keep in mind that our goal as leaders is to influence others, and that’s why in a globalized world, we must have direct contact with new cultures and know their needs and strengths.</p>

<p>People, who are influential, stand out for their ability to listen and be assertive at all times with their answers and actions. Others identify with their history and way of being. This is why it is so important to adapt and be in contact with new cultures, which is the first step to having a global mentality. The next key element will be having great performance and great actions in the new cultures.</p>
<p>Establishing this contact with new cultures can be a bit hard since we might not know what kind of conversation or topics we can engage in, either because of a difference in dialects or because we simply ignore how to start one. Following this practical activity might be very helpful:</p>
<p>Start by being open to meeting other people from around the world by genuinely and meaningfully connecting with them. A very good starting point is being curious and showing a desire to connect or starting conversations. That is when we can practice the art of inquiry, diplomacy and establishing relationships.</p>
<p>Having tact with other cultures is the best tool of a global leader. It allows him to define a global mindset and to go beyond his comfort zone.</p>

<p>Why is it so important for the global leader to understand globalization?</p>

<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">Human beings are biopsychosocial. We need contact, to get closer, to communicate with each other and establish emotional bonds. Currently part of what we call globalization has to do with the fact that technology has become a part of our daily lives and it connects us through the web with people around the world. In fact, some people say that there is no distance thanks to technology.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">Are you learning virtually about other cultures?</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">Our great leap towards new cultures has obviously been propelled by technology. Statistics show that approximately 4 billion people, which are more than half of the world’s population, are connected virtually; this is what I call the eighth continent.</p>

<p>There is no doubt that there are many human beings who are connected today through technology. However, there are still cultures with little access to technology; nevertheless, this great tool will never be a substitute for a real experience when we are in direct contact with other cultures.</p>
<p>Connecting with other cultures and having credibility as leaders of influence, opens the way to a better perspective and to developing our capacities as global leaders. Moreover, it leads us to be able to increase our effectiveness and our potential to make great contributions at a professional level, both in the groups and in the organizations to which we belong.</p>
<div style="background-color:#eeeeee;border:1px solid #D6D6D6;font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:15px;line-height:20px;margin:8px 0 20px;padding:15px 20px;">Culture plays a very important role when it comes to social and economic development. This is very well said by my friend and partner Dr. John Maxwell when he points out that: “culture can have the vision for lunch”.</div>
<p>If the goal of an organization is to expand to international markets, to be connected to their culture and to their people, as well as to get them to know about the organization and become interested in what the organization is, what it offers and what it represents, its members must be connected to this new culture.</p>
<p>Also, the connection that is created between a new culture and ours through the organization will be a great contributor to this intercultural exchange and it will also enhance our organizational culture. Being able to establish commercial relationships with other companies will result in institutional agreements that will definitely benefit both parts.</p>
<p>How can we connect with other cultures?</p>
<p><strong>First</strong>, be aware that it requires time, especially in cultures where it is not possible to connect from one day to the next. Relating to others is a process and connecting with them, is an art.</p>
<p><strong>Second</strong>, one of the easiest ways to connect with other cultures is through social media. Just, make sure you don’t share personal information. This is a way to reach others around the world, share your experiences and learn from the experiences of others as well.</p>
<p>The global leader knows that having a global mentality is a fundamental element to be able to influence beyond their own and limited borders.</p>

<p>Why is a global mentality so important?</p>

<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">A global mentality allows us to understand that a culture is diverse, inclusive and that it is the greatest representation that any society can have.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">This is why one of the characteristics of having a global mentality is to understand new cultures; this has to do with the tendency of a leader to glimpse and connect emotionally with people from different cultures or regions of the world. It is in such a way, that we are able to put ourselves in the place of the other individual, establish a deeper connection and really understand them.<br />
How can we understand new cultures?</p>
<ul>
<li class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">We must start by studying and knowing very well ours, in this way we can get into new cultures and establish more representative ties.</li>
<li class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">Some of the tasks that a global-minded leader has are not only to worry about getting to know, soak up and adapt to new cultures but also to truly understand their lifestyle, market, customs, and their history and the role that its citizens have played.</li>

<p>Many times organizations or large companies that establish themselves in new continents do not have a very encouraging start. Mostly, it has to do with the fact that they have not taken the time to study the behavior of the new culture, so they just settle and try to impose the culture of the company’s country of origin.</p>
<p>It is because of this that the new country rejects it since it does not meet the demands and needs that this culture and its citizens have.</p>

An excellent way is by doing cultural exchanges, which will avoid an intercultural &#8216;shock&#8217; that will make you lose sight of the established objectives.</div>
<p>The goal of a leader who wishes to be recognized and able to influence others is to understand and respect new cultures. Awakening in us a global mentality will allow us to have greater cultural awareness.</p>
<p>How can we understand a new culture and expand our global mentality?</p>
<ul>
<li>The most practical way to understand new cultures is to start new personal or commercial relationships in order to observe and study others. Our goal is not only to understand them but to connect with them at a level that allows us to understand them.</li>
<li>Develop an interest in the values of that culture, their beliefs, customs, and assumptions, how the family is shaped and the importance it has in that culture in particular. When starting a personal relationship, ask about those aspects to each person.</li>
<li>When we develop a commercial relationship, we should inquire about how the beginnings of their economy were and about their business market, as well as how they use technology and how it has influenced them.</li>
</ul>

<p>These franchises have been dedicated to expanding themselves worldwide, in order to stay in the market and generate large profits. This is precisely what has allowed them to open up to new cultures and study each individual market, its customs and mostly its gastronomy.</p>
<p>Most of these fast food locations maintain a food concept mostly oriented towards the American style. However, this has not been an impediment to franchises such as McDonald’s or Burger King, to get positioned in countries like India, where consumption of meat is frowned upon or prohibited, as cows are sacred animals. They, too, as large corporations, have adapted to these cultures, thanks to their cultural openness.</p>
<p>How has the opening to new cultures facilitated the success of these corporations?</p>

<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">These franchises have maintained their openness to new cultures by modifying their traditional menu and including native dishes of these cultures, with the characteristic touch of each franchise, thus creating an opening to new customers and different cultures.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">We must keep in mind that we can adapt to any situation by instinct, but a leader with a global mentality should have the desire to know and to be open to new cultures.</p>

This is one of the characteristics of having a global mentality and it requires an ability to enjoy, and experience satisfaction from multicultural environments completely alien to us.</div>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">How about you? Are you open to new cultures? If you are not so sure how to incorporate this into your organization, I recommend you to do the following exercise: close your eyes and picture yourself in 5 years, leading the same company, in the same market, with the same workers and having the same profits.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">How do you feel about that? Do you feel stuck? What if I tell you that we can prevent this from happening? If you have ever had the opportunity to travel, we are well on our way to accomplish it, since you have already been exposed to different places and have experienced learning a little more about the history of incredible places outside your comfort zone.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">In case you have not had the opportunity yet, I bet you have previously searched the Internet for any curious data about a city which has been captivated.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">That is precisely what being open to new cultures means, the awakening that curiosity in us to inquire and learn beyond what we already know, as well as being willing to experience cultures from a different perspective other than pure tourism.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">In order to establish if you have this ability and really open to new cultures, it is important that you consider if you feel uncomfortable knowing new people, especially from other places or cultures. Based on your response, begin to evaluate your possibilities and the vast world that waits for you.</p>
<p class="normal" style="text-align: justify;">After all, a global mindset is not just about adapting to a new culture, but also about soaking it up and down that personal and professional success that we desire to have.</p>

It’s been years since this concept was created, and without a doubt, they appropriated this image. They made it a tradition for their brand. He talked about some of the characteristics of this place that amazed me and for a moment I thought that he was just describing a fantasy story. The level of diversity and relationships that he described, I have to admit, challenged my thinking. So I just took my laptop and Googled it. <p>Founded 50 years ago as an experiment, yet for some, this place is controversial, for others it is utopia or even unreal. Auroville, The City of Dawn, according to one of its founders &#8211; Mirra Alfassa, wants to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and continuous harmony, beyond all creeds, politics, and nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to achieve human unity.</p>
<p>After reading about this place and watching some videos about its 2,500 habitats, I am sure that Auroville’s community embraces diversity and unity with great enthusiasm.</p>
<p>How about you? Do you have a desire to experience different cultures and the diverse ways they do things?</p>

<p>If that is so, you are developing one the qualities of a global mindset which is the desire to visit different parts of the world and experience other cultures and new ways of doing things. This is one of the qualities of a global leader. Furthermore, this type of leader has a higher mindset l and emotional level of flexibility, openness to other cultures, and the self-assurance needed to successfully navigate in new cultural environments.</p>
<p>The development of global leaders with a global mindset is critical; even more, because workforce diversity continues to be a competitive advantage in today’s, organizations. A successful organization, as well as its leaders, recognizes the importance of creating and nurturing an environment that supports diversity and inclusion at all levels.</p>

<p>In fact, an entire month of excitement is a big distraction, especially for the nations with a team in the tournament. Sixty-four matches will be played throughout the 4 weeks, several of them during regular working hours. There will be casual fans that will watch some games, other fans will plan on watching every single game, and others will travel to the host country leaving everything behind to follow their teams for an entire month.</p>
<p>So, which countries’ productivity was more affected in this world cup?</p>
<p>According to Statista Portal, the potential effect of the World Cup at the workplace will depend largely on the time zone.</p>
<p>The host country this year was Russia, thus if you were in Asia or Australia the impact was low as the games started at night. In the United States, the majority of the games were played during regular working hours. Countries in Latin America with the highest number of soccer fans, like Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina were watching the games during the day.</p>
<p>On the other hand, if you were traveling overseas for a business trip, organized a meeting, or you were closing a negotiation in a country that was part of the World Cup and you were not aware of how schedules and productivity were affected during those days, you need to increase your international business ability.</p>
<p>For a global business leader it is key to develop his international business ability, clearly, understand the worldwide industry and business operations. Furthermore, learning and understanding the behavior and habits of their customers, as well as the strategic risk associated with operations in different parts of the world.</p>

<p>Tourists in Russia, as well as Soccer World Cup fans probably know by now that this country is more than the St. Basil’s Cathedral, the Red Square in Moscow, the wood dolls known as Matryoshkas, and vodka. I am sure that many have discovered way more about its people, economy, food, and beautiful land.</p>
<p>Understanding the culture of a person, team, or organization is what gives a competitive advantage to a leader and what allows him to effectively influence others.</p>

<p>Regardless of which nations are represented in this event, there is a fact that in this world’s party there are more things in common than differences.</p>
<p>We can see many sharing their passion for this sport and feeling proud of their native countries or for the country they are supporting. Also, we witness happiness for the winners or sadness for the ones who lose. Further, it is obvious the collective euphoria for the goals and excitement for the next match and many more.</p>
<p>There is no doubt that this event has the power to effectively influence people from many cultures around the world.<br />

<p>In today’s globalized world having the ability to effectively extend our influence beyond our own culture is a vital element to build and manage teams successfully. To make it happen a global mindset is an essential skill for a leader and for organizations.</p>
